Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are many components that make up a lift truck. The lift truck's major parts consist of the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck consists of various kinds of attachments. All the parts that make up a lift truck are all essential as they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The next paragraphs describe several of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machine operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will injure the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move upwards and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and different other attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage could have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. What's more, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different attachments are handy for moving different types of loads.
