Types of Hydraulic Cranes
Hydraulic cranes are one of the most frequently used types of crane in the construction industry. They are utilized to construct everything from buildings and skyscrapers to roadways and freeway overpasses.
Cranes come in a wide variety of models, sizes and styles. These different units allow both the owner and operators to perform many more functions in their business. Choosing the right type of crane is essential for making sure that the material can be transported safely and efficiently to the location it has to get to in order for the construction process to begin.
Truck Cranes
Typically, truck cranes have 2 different cabs. One cab is for controlling the crane and the other is for driving the truck when the unit is in transport mode. These cranes are really useful for building locations where a crane is needed in many different places for the duration of the build. This is because of the fact that the crane could be easily driven from one place to another.
In addition, the cranes could be transported to different construction locations on the road because they can drive themselves and this eliminates the need for extra transport vehicles. Being able to travel on their own greatly lessens transport costs at the end of the day.
One disadvantage of a truck crane is that it is not stable enough sitting on tires alone in order to be able to lift the major loads that a hydraulic crane can handle. Therefore, in order to fix this problem, outriggers can be extended from the deck. The outriggers make use of hydraulic pressure in order to slightly lift the truck off of the ground, making it balanced and stable.
Crawler-Mounted Cranes
The crawler crane is unique in that it has big tracks on the bottom of the crane. These massive tracks are really like bulldozers and backhoes. The tracks allow the crane to move around a construction locations successfully.
