Different Kinds of Aerial Lift
A particular type of heavy machinery that enables a person to be raised into the air is aerial lifts. These machines are normally utilized to perform repairs on places which are high up in the air such as on roofs, near street-light fixtures and power lines. Like nearly all tools, there are different kinds of aerial lifts which can be utilized to perform various jobs. For the utmost safety, each type of different kind of machine requires proper training and specific qualifications before operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are normally called Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic form of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is lifted up using pneumatic power and are mostly used indoors. Usually, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts can be driven like large carts. Usually, when the platform is extended, they are not able to be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody can use these devices, employees have to be certified as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complex pieces of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which enables the operator to lift and lower the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it could also move from side to side. The boom lift looks like a metal scorpion's tail. Usually, it is utilized in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run than scissor lifts, thus, operators must be licensed separately for these kinds of lifts.
